remote printingRemote printing is a function in which a computer is used with a distant printer. Remote printing programs are available for most computers. It is often possible, however, to set up the feature in the operating system without the need for a specialized application program . In business, remote printing offers an alternative to fax . Traveling business people can send files over the Internet or a proprietary network to printers at corporate headquarters, eliminating the need to carry a printer as baggage. Remote printing is available in many hotels, especially those with high-speed Internet or wireless LAN connections in guest rooms. A guest can send a file to a printer in the main lobby or other central location and retrieve the hard copy from the printer at a convenient time.
