Your PC Graveyards

Have you read our Fast Guide to Online Computer Museums ? Did those pictures and specs bring your own first steps into the digital domain back to mind? The journey back in time certainly made us wax nostalgic and then inspired us to wonder: what was your first PC? How about sending us your pictures ?

As it happens, WhatIs.com has carte blanche access to the Alexander B. Howard Museum of Expired Technologies. Exhibits include: a Mac SE , a Performa 636 , an original iMac and a Powerbook . The Apple II+ , his first computer, remains in his parents' garage, next to the generic beige box that contains the "high-powered" Intel 386 chip that served as an introduction to MS-DOS. The rest of the list is safely stored in the basement, awaiting refurbishment or assigment as print servers, Web servers or, in at least one case, conversion into a MacQuarium .

Now, we want to know what your first computer was, WhatIzzers! Do you have old PCs you just can't bear to part with? An office filled with old disk drives you refuse to let go for fear of a lack of backwards compatibility? Do you have stacks of Linux boxes that you've turned into a Beowulf cluster? Let us all see it!

We know you're creative, savvy and maybe even a little nostalgic about your early geekery. Send your pictures to editor@WhatIs.com , along with your name, a caption and a link to your Web site if you'd like it to be included.

We'll post them as they come in and let you know what we've discovered about our collective journey into computing history.
