FairPlay FairPlay is a digital rights management (DRM) program from Apple. Originally, Apple used FairPlay to protect music and other media files sold in their iTunes store but in April 2007, Apple announced a partnership with EMI, a major record company, to offer EMI content for sale in the iTunes store without FairPlay encryption. This move followed an open letter from Apple CEO Steve Jobs urging major production studios to drop DRM requirements from digital media distribution. Now Apple uses FairPlay to protect the intellectual property of developers who create iPhone applications (apps.)
