Robot Land

Robot Land is a proposed city for robotics research, development, testing and production in South Korea. The facility is intended to give South Korea a competitive edge in the robotics industry against larger, more established producers, particularly Japan.

Robot Land will house parts suppliers, exhibition halls, research laboratories, manufacturing facilities, retail vendors and a stadium where robots can compete with each other to display and test their capabilities. The project is expected to cost approximately $530 million U.S. dollars, up to $50 million of which may be provided by the South Korean government. Robot Land will be the first city of its kind in the world. Construction is set to begin in 2009. The precise location of the city will be announced in late 2007 or early 2008.

The government of South Korea considers robotics one of the country's main growth industries. South Korea specializes in the design and manufacture of service and entertainment robots for consumer use.
