ooblickAccording to Eric Raymond, compiler of The New Hacker's Dictionary , "ooblick" derives from the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck and is (or has been legendarily) a favorite snack among hacker s. Basically of cornstarch and water, the ooblick has properties that Raymond describes as "quite non-Newtonian," forming a combined liquid-solid that can be poured but can also be cracked with a hammer. Ooblick is made and "consumed" (played around with, poured, hammered) at hacker parties. (Raymond says most hackers don't smoke and many don't drink; thus, the need for such stuff as ooblick.) Raymond's book provides a recipe.
