spod

1) On the Internet in the United Kingdom, a spod is a person who frequents chat rooms or discussion groups a little too frequently. Spods are described as people "with all the negative traits of the computer geek without having any interest in computers per se." According to Eric Raymond, compiler of The New Hacker's Dictionary , a true spod always begins an online conversation with "Are you male or female?"

2) At Cambridge University and perhaps elsewhere, the term is reported to mean "someone who spends a lot of time at the computer" or as a synonym for nerd , but not someone who is a newbie at chatting.

3) Also in the UK, a spod is a small stone used in the obscure game of blooging . Blooging basically involves throwing a stone with your foot on a rugby pitch or similar field. Points are awarded for hitting goal posts or equivalent objects.
