VPD (vital product data)1) VPD (vital product data) is information about a device that is stored on a computer's hard disk (or the device itself) that allows the device to be administered at a system or network level. Typical VPD information includes a product model number, a unique serial number, product release level, maintenance level, and other information specific to the device type. Vital product data can also include user-defined information, such as the building and department location of the device. The collection and use of vital product data allows the status of a network or computer system to be understood and service provided more quickly. 2) VPD (Visual Parts Database) is a service from TEC Engineering in which a photographic database is created of a company's products and product parts. 3) VPD is also an abbreviation for "virtual printer device."
