bridge tapA bridge tap is an extraneous length of dangling, unterminated cable on a communications line, usually left over from an earlier configuration, that can cause impedance mismatches and other undesired effects in transmissions. In a given cabling arrangement, allowance is usually made for a certain length of bridge taps. ISDN uses the standard line code, 2B1Q, because it has the ability to handle the incidence of bridge taps well.
