power-upPower-up (or the synonym "power-on") is a verb meaning to apply electrical power to a device - that is, to "turn it on" as most of us would say about turning on a light switch when entering a dark room. A term long favored by engineers, it permeates computer and other device documentation and most of today's computer users have gradually come to terms with it.
