coulomb per centimeter squared

The coulomb per centimeter squared (symbolized C/cm 2 ) is a unit of electric flux density . It represents a considerable electric charge per unit surface area.

Suppose there are two charged plates, each having an area of one centimeter squared, placed close together to form a capacitor . Suppose further that one plate is connected to electrical ground while the other is supplied with one coulomb of electric charge. Then the flux density between the plates is 1 C/cm 2 . If the charge is doubled, the flux density will become 2 C/cm 2 ; the same thing will happen if the area of the plates is cut in half while the charge remains the same.
