Global Network Enterprise Construct (GNEC)

The Global Network Enterprise Construct (GNEC) is a strategy to move the U.S. Army’s many loosely-affiliated independent networks into five standardized, secure network hubs called network service centers (NSCs). The NSCs will function as data centers to provide networking, data processing, storage, operations and security resources for their respective operating regions. There will be two NSCs in the continental United States, one in Southwest Asia, one in Europe and one in the Pacific region.

Proponents of GNEC, including Army CIO Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, believe that the Army’s numerous, fragmented networks hinder its interoperability. Under GNEC, the Army will have an global active directory, enterprise-level application management and standardized minimal security requirements. The goal of GNEC is to provide soldiers with a common set of applications and information resources, no matter where the soldiers are deployed. The GNEC's four operating principles are to aggregate, consolidate, standardize and modernize.

GNEC supports a larger effort to transform the Army into a faster, more flexible organization.
