M3U What is M3U? M3U (Moving Picture Experts Group Audio Layer 3 URL) is a metafile format used to save multimedia playlists. M3U files often contain a single URL pointing to a stream online. An M3U file is plain text and contains, at a minimum, the location on a computer where a file can be found or the uniform resource locator (URL) of a file online.
