What is a mobile Internet device (MID)?

A mobile Internet device (MID) is a handheld device that is larger than a smartphone but smaller than a netbook.

As the name implies, an MID is designed for Web use. To keep prices down and battery life up, an MID has limited processing power and storage. As such the devices are not equipped for locally-stored programs or compute-intensive applications.
