The mole per meter cubed (mol / m 3 ) is the International Unit of amount-of-substance concentration. It is an expression of the number of atom s of a substance per unit volume, and is of interest primarily to chemists and physicists.
One mole is equal to approximately 6.022169 x 10 23 , and is also called the Avogadro constant. Thus, 1 mol / m 3 represents approximately 6.022169 x 10 23 atoms of a substance in one cubic meter of space.
Sometimes, larger or smaller units are defined by attaching power-of-10 prefix multipliers. For example, a kilomole per meter cubed (1 kmol / m 3 ) is 10 3 mol / m 3 , or approximately 6.022169 x 10 26 atoms per cubic meter; a nanomole per meter cubed (1 nmol / m 3 ) is 10 -9 mol / m 3 , or approximately 6.022169 x 10 14 atoms per cubic meter.
