The practice of recording streaming media is known as destreaming. There are several approaches to destreaming media. One program, called URL snooper, finds the URLs of streaming media so that the associated files can be downloaded. This approach works when the content is streamed through an HTTP request to the associated URL. Stream recorder websites typically use this method. Examples of stream recorder services include KeepVid, BitRecorder and DownloadFLV. Other approaches include packet sniffers or implementing the protocol the stream uses.
