| Virtualization is the creation of a logical (rather than physical) version of an IT component such as a server or storage device. You probably know a little about virtualization if you have ever divided your hard drive into different partitions. (A partition is the logical division of a hard disk drive to create, in effect, two separate hard drives.) By using virtualization, you can essentially make one physical entity act as multiple, independent logical entities. Virtualization is an important part of cloud computing; it allows multiple customers to share computing resources in a secure manner. |
