IMA File Format

Image (WinImage)

IMA is a file extension for a disk image file, primarily used for storage, duplication and transmission of disks. A disk image stores a copy of a storage device, such as a hard drive, DVD or CD, exactly as it is on the original storage device. To do so, the disk image file includes both data and structure information. A hard drive image may be saved as a virtual hard disk (VHD).

An image file can be used to create a virtual floppy disk. Virtual floppies are useful for a number of reasons. For example, although most newer computers no longer include floppy drives, some software installation processes still require their use.

IMA files are often associated with WinImage disk imaging shareware.

IMA files can be opened by WinImage, Nero Burning Rom and Microsoft Virtual Machine.

MIME type: application/octet-stream

The IMA file extension is also used for a vector graphics file format used by Ego and Chart software.
