Resource file for the Lithtech game engine
The REZ file extension is associated with resource files for the Lithtech game engine. REZ files are resource files associated with the Lithtech game engine, which was developed by Monolith Productions in collaboration with Microsoft. REZ files contain meshes, textures, music, maps, and other game content; when a developer wants to modify a Lithtech game’s attributes, they open REZ files with Dragon UnPACKer, Game Extractor, or WinRez LT Studio. Many Lithtech games also included the program lithrez.exe, which can open REZ files too. Lithtech was used to create many first-person shooters, including Aliens vs. Predator, Aliens vs. Predator 2, F.E.A.R., F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, The Matrix Online, No One Lives Forever, No One Lives Forever 2, Tron 2.0, and others. The REZ format has another gaming-related purpose: it is used by plug-ins for Ambrosia Software’s cult hit Escape Velocity (aka EV Nova) series of space adventure games.
