AOL Image file compressed using the Johson-Grace compression algorithm
ART is a file extension for a graphics file used by America Online (AOL).
Created by the Johnson-Grace company (which was later purchased by AOL), an ART file was intended to house a highly compressed still image. The ART file data is compressed with the Johson-Grace compression algorithm. The degree of compression for the data in an ART file reduces the time needed to download the file.
