ASF is a file extension for Microsoft Advanced Streaming Format file, mainly for synchronized streaming video. ASF is a Microsoft proprietary container file containing audio and video streams that are often in WMA, WMV but may come in any number of codecs. ASF supports still image or text as well optional meta-data for additional information related to the ASF file.
It is an extensible file format that may be used to deliver multimedia across different protocols and is Not OS dependant
