F File Format

Compressed file archive (FREEZE)

The F file extension is used with Unix file archives compressed with the “freeze” file compression program that’s part of the compression utilities package. However, the GNU zip (gzip) suite is currently more often used for that purpose.

The F file extension is also associated with FORTRAN files
