MPQ File Format

Blizzard game data file

MPQ is an archiving file format used by Blizzard Entertainment games. MPQ stands for Mike O’Brien Pack, which is named after its creator. MPQ files contain a game’s data files, including graphics, sounds, and level data, and can also be compressed, segmented and encrypted. These files are used for archiving information by a number of Blizzard’s games, including Diablo, Starcraft, and World of Warcraft. MPQ files can be edited using programs such as StormLib Library and MPQ Editor, though it is not recommended or supported by Blizzard Entertainment.
