National Imagery Transmission Format file
NTF is an image file format created by the National Imagery Transmission Format Standard (NITFS). NTF files contain images that are meant to be transmitted between departments of the United States Government. These files contain the image, text, labels, symbols and other metadata describing the image. NITFS was created in 1984 after it became apparent that a standard format for image files was needed for images being transmitted between secondary sources.
