URL is an internet shortcut file format used by web browsers. URL files are shortcuts created from web pages previously visited. URL files hold the link to a web page, which can be seen if the file is opened in a text editor. URL files also sometimes contain other information, such as an icon, icon path, and date modified. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator.
