WAD is a file extension for a game archive file format, originally used with the Doom series of games. WAD stands for Where's All the Data.
WAD files can contain graphics, levels, maps and other game data. A WAD file can also be edited to create a modified version of a video game. WAD files have 2 separate types, IWADS (containing the game data) and PWADS (containing characters, maps and levels).
