Microsoft Excel auto-save files
The XAR file extension is used by Microsoft Excel for the auto-saving feature that has been part of the software since the 2007 version. Auto-saving enables the user to recover a file after suffering a computer crash, power failure, and other unforeseen incident.
The XAR file extension is also associated with Corel Xara drawing files.
