PaperPort (ScanSoft) thumbnail image index file

PTN is a file extension used with PaperPort (ScanSoft) thumbnail image index files.

Nuance Communications’ digital document organizer PaperPort uses PTN files to hold the data required for displaying thumbnail images. The files are hidden; if they’re found and deleted, PaperPort will recreate them the next time it launches.

PTN files also carry virus information used by HouseCall anti-virus software, and they used to be associated with the now-defunct CAD 3D software CADKEY, which was published by Kubotek.

MIME type: application/ptn, application/x-ptn, image/x-ptn
