STP File Format

STP stands for STandard for the Exchange of Product.

STP is a file extension for a 3-D graphic file used by CAD software.  STP files are used to store 3D image data in an ASCII format, following the standards defined in ISO 10303-21 : Clear Text Encoding of the Exchange Structure.

STP files can be opened by CATIA (Computer Aided Three Dimensional Interactive Application), a commercial CAD software suite created by Dassault Systemes and marketed by IBM.

MIME type : application/vnd.ms-access

I heard some VP/GM of a machining/tooling/fabrication company mention it along w DXF files - since I'm doing their internet mktg, he said, "Yeah, and we can let people know that we have Catia, 3D capabilities, and they can just send us the DXF or STP files & we can go from there." - I just nodded ;-p - Cool site #Bookmarked

You gave only one file type associated with the extension STP.
STP file extension is associated with four types of files.
To open it, you can use a much larger number of programs than only CATIA

Hi,
Do you know any free App. for Mac which can open .stp file?

this author has sadly no knowledge on STEP files. STEP is NOT a proprietary format , CATIA on the other hand IS 100% proprietary of Dassault, and ONLY ONE of the players in the 3D market. SPAM.
