The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard is a widely accepted set of policies and procedures intended to optimize the security of credit, debit and cash card transactions and protect cardholders against misuse of their personal information – but “Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard” is a bit of a mouthful, and that’s why we call it PCI DSS, just one of many abbreviations for related terms.
